Tapio Wirkkala designed and developed the century shape to celebrate and commemorate the 100th anniversary of Philipp Rosenthal’s 19th-century foundation of the Rosenthal porcelain works. Philipp Rosenthal Senior set up the factory in 1879 Selb, Germany
The Century shape is delightfully simple and elegant. The sizing and handling quite grand. The concept of triple spot feet accentuates the roundness of the serving pieces. The grey pixelation of the main surface of this anniversary Coffee Pot gives the illusion of depth, finishing with four golden rings surrounding the upper edge. The spout and lid are white which accentuates the beautifully curved brass handle.
Tapio Wirkkala (1915 -1985) designed for Rosenthal from 1956 until 1985. Philip Rosenthal Jnr. named Tapio Wirkkala an artisan, an industrial designer, an artist, a technical innovator, a poet and a realist. A man who complimented and inspired the Rosenthal creative philosophy.
