This is Tapio Wirkkala’s beautiful porcelain tableware interpretation of Rosenthal’s 100th year celebration. For this porcelain form Tapio Wirkkala received honours in Industrial Design. Back stamped with 100 years of Rosenthal.
With the “Century” design transparency is particularly remarkable, The point relief is directed inward; when held to the light there are two densities of translucence giving a remarkable dispersion of light not often found in porcelain. The colours bright and beautiful.
This replacement Coffee Pot, with its Periband design of fading grey dots is a collectors piece of fine china in the Studio Line tradition.
Tapio Wirkkala (1915 -1985) designed for Rosenthal from 1956 until 1985. Philip Rosenthal Jnr. named Tapio Wirkkala an artisan, an industrial designer, an artist, a technical innovator, a poet and a realist. A man who complimented and inspired the Rosenthal creative philosophy.
